
Austria and Slovenia also want to bring new life into parliamentary relations
President of the national Council Wolfgang Sobotka on an official visit in Slovenia
Vienna (PK) – to bring a new impetus to the parliamentary relations between Austria and Slovenia, is President of the national Council Wolfgang Sobotka this week on an official visit in Ljubljana. Between the two countries, traditionally close Connections in historical, cultural and economic terms, would be said Sobotka, of course, but also between neighbors, always open-ended questions. This will be address in the future in a constructive, agreed with President Dejan Židan. A valuable bridge for an even closer cooperation with the minorities on both sides as well as the dialogue between the parliaments.
In an interview with Židan was approached by Sobotka also the Situation of the German-speaking ethnic group in Slovenia. This remains a Central concern of Austria, the long-standing demand for a constitutional recognition of the German-speaking minority won the support of Parliament across party lines. Since it was not a simple matter, it is all the more important to stay in conversation and to lead on the part of Slovenia, the dialogue with the Austrian people’s group. Also, the solution of the conflict over bilingual topographical signs in Carinthia has been a long process, reminded Sobotka. „It is our common task to safeguard the rights of minorities and to strengthen“ as the President of the national Council einmahnte, especially since the respect for minorities and ethnic groups is one of the core values of the European Union.
United Austria and Slovenia are in the support for the countries of the Western Balkans on their way into the European Union. Sobotka and Židan agreed that the EU must remain credible when it comes to the prospect of accession for the Region. A key responsibility in the European Integration would take the parliaments, Sobotka, the European neighbourhood will therefore also be a Central theme at the Meeting of the President of the EU Parliament on the inside of the 8 and 9. April in Vienna.
