Vienna (OTS) – In cooperation with the environmental organization Greenpeace, the dairy berglandmilch from supplies by the end of the year their milk in refillable Liter glass bottles. The Austria’s largest dairy, announced today, jointly with Greenpeace. Thus, resources are protected, conserved and the climate. For the conversion of Berglandmilch has invested around eight million Euro in two locations in Austria. The environmental organization looks to be reusable as the only solution to reduce packaging waste for drinks and to combat the plastic crisis.
Josef Braunhofer, managing Director of Berglandmilch: “As the largest dairy in Austria, we want to be in terms of climate protection at the forefront. Supported by Greenpeace, we are therefore this year on returnable milk bottles. A single multi-way bottle replaces this eleven disposable glass bottles we need for the same amount of packaging is only a fraction of the resources.”
Alexander Egit Executive Director of Greenpeace: “After almost 20 years of mountain milk, together with Greenpeace for a Comeback of the returnable milk bottle in the Austrian super markets. With reusable packaging, we reduce the size of the piles of garbage and protect our climate. The new returnable glass bottle is clearly the most environmentally friendly solution and creates about four times less harmful greenhouse gases than a disposable glass bottle.” The independent environmental protection organization Greenpeace takes no money from governments and companies, and supports the dairy free of charge with their Expertise.
Around a year ago, the mountain land of milk milk in non-returnable bottles has put on the market. The production of milk to switch to reusable, invested in the mountain land of milk around eight million euros at its sites in Aschbach in lower Austria and in Wörgl in Tyrol. The money will be used for an additional glass-bottling plant, a washing plant at the site in Aschbach, as well as for the establishment of Camps for the glass bottles. “In 2019, we will offer our successful milk bottle made of glass solely as a reusable bottle. In order to keep the transport routes as short as possible, we will be drinking milk bottling, both in lower Austria and Tirol”, Braunhofer.
At the beginning of the 1990s, about 70 percent of beverage containers were a number of times refillable, today there are only about 20 percent. “In order to make reusable in Austria strong again, it needs companies like mountain land of milk, to go ahead with bold steps. The supermarkets have to follow suit and the new refillable bottle in your shelves,” says Egit. In addition, the Greenpeace-managing Director in terms of tomorrow’s plastic summit, the policy called for: “If the government in Austria wants to reduce the plastic packaging by a quarter, it must ensure that the trade is offering increasingly returnable bottles.” As a representative survey commissioned by Greenpeace shows, about three-quarters of the Austrians for more refillable bottles in the domestic super markets.
